Thank you, Proctors ! We cannot say "Thank You!" enough
to the 80+ members of the WMMS community who have volunteered
to proctor during EOGs. The only tests remaining for all students is Social Studies, and that doesn't require proctors as long as students take the test with someone other than their SS teacher. We will need proctors for next week's Common Core 1 (Algebra 1), but at this point, it appears that we have all that are needed. Thanks again!
Yearbooks - Don't miss your opportunity to participate in the yearbook signing party on June 4! Visit the online yearbook site to reserve your 2012-2013 yearbook. The last day to purchase online has been extended to May 29. The cost is $40. There may be a few copies available at school after May 29. If you purchase at school, you will pay $40 plus tax!
Eighth Grade Career Activity - Job Shadow Day - West Millbrook's official 8th grade job shadow day will be held on May 30. Since WCPSS requires that that all endorsed school volunteers go through a background check, the school does not place students in Job Shadow positions. Instead, we encourage a parent who wishes for their 8th grader to participate to make arrangements with a trusted adult or take to their own place of work. Click here for information.

Wildcat News - May 2013 issue
The Wildcat News is published by the PTA with staff contributions approximately once a month. Rather than paper copies being issued to every student, we have gone green and will make it available via the parent e-mail lists and this website in PDF format. A few copies will be available in paper in West Millbrook's front office. Download Free PDF Reader.
WMMS PTA News - Did you know that the WMMS PTA has a great, up-to-date website? Click here to learn the latest!
Lost and Found - We have a wide array of items in our lost and found – glasses, pencil cases, coats and even a bookbag. If your student has lost an item please have them check the lost and found in the back of the main office. At the end of each month, items not retrieved will be donated.
Parent E-mail Lists - West Millbrook offers parents an opportunity to keep up-to-date on school-wide and team-specific happenings via e-mail announcements. An e-mail list has been set up for every grade level team as well as a school-wide list that Ms. Aman uses for her weekly and other announcements relating to all grade levels. EOG Camp has ended and the SMART Academy begins - Communities in Schools of Wake County is happy to announce that through a generous grant from Duke Energy, their SMART Academy will now offer year-long programs and services to students throughout Wake County. SMART stands for "students maximizing academic resources through technology." The SMART Academy offers the following programs:
- SMART Summer and SMART Track-Out Camps;
- SMART Beginning of Grade (BOG) and SMART
- SMART End of Grade (EOG) Camps;
- SMART Weekend School; and,
- SMART Evening School (on-line tutorial support).
Their curriculum emphasizes:
1. Interactive Instruction (assessments and on-line data-driven instruction);
2. Differentiated Instruction (individualized and small groups); and,
3. Project-based learning (experiential learning).
( Click here to view a video about their interactive instruction powered by our partner Triumph Learning ).
Their reliance on data to drive instruction allows them to create a learning environment where students "don't just work harder, but SMARTER!"
The foundation of our SMART strategy is the SMART Weekend School , a 28 week program designed to strengthen students in grades 3-8 in math and language arts. Beginning September 13, 2013 , SMART Weekend will meet on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for three hours each session for intensive instruction. Parents will choose one day per weekend for their student(s).
Thanks to Duke Energy's investment, the first 100 parents who register for SMART Weekend School by Friday, May 31, 2013 will receive SMART Pricing ( click here to download schedule and pricing sheet ). It is our goal to provide ALL parents in Wake County with the tools that their students need at an affordable price. Click here for the Smart Academy Registration page.
Elective Course Selection - Our 6th and 7th grade students have completed selecting their electives for next year. Click here to access a downloadable course description file.
