From the Career Corner...

February 7, 2008. West Millbrook's eighth grade students have been busy in recent weeks, starting the process of course selection for high school. Students in all 8th grade teams have established accounts on both Futures for Kids and College Foundation of North Carolina web sites. These programs are accessible from any computer with internet assess.

Both F4K and CFNC offer a wealth of resources for you and your children. While visiting the computer lab, our students enjoyed the online college tours and the comparison of colleges in NC on CFNC. While working with the Futures for Kids website, each student completed the Matchmaker Quiz, aligning the student's interests to appropriate careers . Students then researched various careers, the education required and the anticipated demands for jobs in those areas. With the knowledge gained, 8th graders began course selection for their high school "four-year plan".

As you have conversations with your child in the upcoming weeks, it would be wise to discuss their anticipated four-year plan so that they will be better equipped to navigate the high school registration process which will start soon. If your child needs additional guidance, there is a career interest inventory on the CFNC website which is a great resource for young and older students, alike.
