Rubric for Proper Keyboarding
Posture and Technique
For each of the items below, give yourself:
5 points for always, 3 points for sometimes 1 point for rarely
Posture:
Back straight with hips to the back of the chair. Body centered. Elbows naturally by side.
Hand Position and Fingering:
Fingers slightly curved and "anchored" on homerow. Palms and wrists low, but not touching the keyboard. Steady typing rhythm. Thumb strikes the space-bar with a quick down and in motion. Right little finger strikes the enter key, while at least the right index finger
remains anchored on the "J" Appropriate little finger used for the shift key.
Technique:
Eyes on "copy" not on hands. (The copy is sometimes on the monitor
and sometimes on paper/textbook located beside the monitor.
POINT TOTAL:
45-50 = A
40-44 = B
35-39 = C
30-34 = D
MOST IMPORTANT TECHNIQUE:
Use the correct fingering at ALL times. This is a touch-typing keyboarding
class. Using incorrect fingering is called "hunt and peck," even
if you are not looking at your hands! "Hunt and Peck" typing will
deduct 25 points from your grade!!!
