2007 Beta Club Shoebox Project A Success!

On Friday afternoon, November 16, approximately 100 Beta Club students gathered in the cafeteria to celebrate the induction of our new members with a pizza party followed by our November/December service project.

When the pizza was finished, students gathered in teams of two or three to fill festively-wrapped shoeboxes with toys and toiletries. As each team chose a box, they also determined the gender and age range of the child who would receive their box, thus helping the team identify with "their child" and the needs/interests the child might have. By the end of the afternoon, 147 boxes were packed full! These shoeboxes will be delivered by the Samaritan's Purse organization to children of war, famine, and poverty on six continents and more than ninety countries during the upcoming holiday season.

Our thanks go to all of the WMMS parents and students who sent sent wrapped boxes and bags of gifts to fill the boxes, along with water and soft drinks for the pizza party. Special thanks to Beta Club moms, Bettina Nolan. Lisa Miller, and Stacy Symes, along with faculty members Susan Cole, Tricia McGlynn, Gayle Murray, Vicki Dresser, and Molly Moore for the roles they played during the afternoon to make the event a huge success. Thanks also to Martha Radulovich who picked up all of the shoeboxes that arrived on campus unwrapped. She wrapped them all and delivered them back to school on Friday morning!!!

All of the shoeboxes in this photo were packed by our students!
