West Millbrook Team - Multiple Winner in Future Cities Competition
West Millbrook placed third in the North Carolina Region of the Future Cities Competition this past Saturday at the North Carolina Museum of History. The competition is sponsored by Shell Oil Company and the North Carolina Professional Engineers Society.
In addition to placing third overall, West Millbrook placed first for best written abstract and first for best oral presentation. Checks for $600.00, $250.00 and $250.00 were awarded. Half goes to the school. Half goes to the team.
The competition involved four stages including building a computer model using Sim City software, writing an abstract, building a physical scale model and presenting before judges. Each of these components involved strict guidelines and deadlines.
William Swanek and Andrew Irvine wrote the first place abstract. The oral presentation team consisted of "Mayor" Andrew, "City Planner" Evonne and "City Engineer" William. Robby and Jeremy also participated Saturday. Special thanks to our engineer mentor, Ruth Swanek of CH2MHill and to Kathryn Benson, of CH2MHill.
Future City team members included Andrew, Robby, Duke, Jeremy, William. Aby, Alex, Shelby, Evonne, Robert, Riquiyah, Cody, and James.
