PTA Report - Spring 2006

As the end of the school year approaches, it is a good time to let the parents know what the PTA has done with all the money that has been raised this year, what all our wonderful volunteers have been doing and what positions still need to be filled for next year.

Over $17,000 was raised through our Dance-A-Thon and March Madness fundraisers and another $9,000 through miscellaneous items such as PTA membership, Book Fair, Directory Sales, Spirit Wear Sales, Box Tops, Online Magazine Sales and Concessions. This money was then used to fund
several different areas, which affected every child in our school in some way.

Did you know that the PTA helps pay for new uniforms for our athletes, books for our media center, food and gifts for Career Day speakers, fun and educational Cultural Arts performances for all students, incentives and books for the ESL program, lunches and breakfasts to show appreciation to
WMMS’s wonderful teachers and staff, instrument rental for our band students, paper for the Wildcat News to keep parents informed, monthly Character Ed lunches, quarterly Honor Roll breakfasts, $100 for each core teacher and $50 for each noncoreteacher to use for purchases for their classroom, 3-$200 grants available to teachers who join the PTA, and our largest area of funding Technology? We made over $3000 over budget this year and were able to purchase 4 new LCD projectors for teachers to use to help integrate technology into the classroom and this was on top of the $3000 we gave to the school for other technology purchases.

Our PTA volunteers also put together the School Directory, chaperone the school dances, help with school pictures, volunteer in the Media Center, serve as Team parents for each grade, organize the 8th Grade Picnic and Dance, work concessions at home athletic events and the list goes on.
Everyone who contributed money, volunteered time or donated needed items is greatly appreciated. When we all work together, we make WMMS a better place for our children, their teachers and the staff. As we look toward next year, we are finding that we need persons that are interested in serving in an Executive Board position. If these positions are not filled, our children’s education will be compromised and there’s a risk of not being able to support a PTA at WMMS.

We ask that you continue to support your child’s education by volunteering your time. Please take a look at the list of positions and let us know where you would be willing to help. It is important that we keep all these great programs going! Thank you to all those that have already volunteered for a position.
