Holidays for Our Troops…
Too early to start thinking about Christmas presents? Not if those presents are traveling half way around the world.
The Builders Club will be starting a new project that will run through December 9. The students will be sending care packages containing needed or wanted items to soldiers that are stationed overseas over the holidays. The website http://www.anysoldier.com/ allows the students to pick specific soldiers that represent various units from all branches of the armed forces. The soldiers write in to the website and post letters, pictures and most importantly, lists of what their fellow soldiers are requesting. Some popular items requested are small canned fruit snacks, candy, cans of tuna, toothpaste, soap, toothbrushes, recent DVD’s, X-Box games, healthy snack foods, Mach3 razors, small new toys for the children they meet, Crystal Lite packs, Gatorade packs, soups, beef jerky, baby wipes and magazines related to sports, hunting, fishing, and cars/bikes.
The biggest request is just for letters and pictures
from people back in the States. Feel free to check out the web site and
make this a family project. However, the Builders Club will be
running it through school as well. There will be a box in the front office
where you
can drop off any items or letters. Items that are not permitted are things
such as home baked foods, aerosol cans and anything containing alcohol, such
as hand
sanitizer. Monetary donations will also be accepted to offset the cost of shipping
all of the boxes. Please make checks payable to West Millbrook Builders Club.
We encourage everyone to visit the Anysoldier.com website to see the impact
these packages have on the morale of our soldiers. Please contact Mrs. Blocher
at sblocher@wcpss.net if you have any questions.
