Take a Child to Work Day
WMMS Job Shadow Event
Thursday, April 28, 2011

Take-A-Child-To-Work Day is a national event observed on the 4th Thursday of April. This year, it will be held on April 28. This optional event provides WMMS eighth graders, who choose to participate, an opportunity to shadow a professional at their place of work for part of a workday. Activities vary from shadowing their parents in the workplace to shadowing other business hosts. Observing, and sometimes helping, in the workplace often provides motivations for students to strive to reach their potential in school, and offers a critical link between education and success. Due to WCPSS volunteer policies, WMMS staff members are not able to coordinate job placement; therefore, parents are asked to work within their personal and professional networks to find a business host. Paperwork, including the request for excused absence for educational reasons should be submitted to D. Walters, Career Development Coordinator, in the Media Center, or scan them and e-mail forms to dwalters@ncteacher.org.

Business Hosts, Thanks for helping a student as s/he considers the future. To receive hosting ideas, we've prepared a website for you. Click here.
