for Parents Who Have Submitted the Request for Excused Absence
for their Child to Participate in Take-a-Child-to-Work-Day Dear Parent or Guardian, Thank you for supporting your eighth grade student's desire to participate in Take-A-Child-to-Work-Day and for allowing them to shadow you, a friend, or colleague (with their approval). With the principal's consent and your provision of transportation, your student will be excused from regular classes on April 27, and instead, will shadow you or an area professional at their place of work. Your student will be expected to complete evaluations of their shadowing experience. Also, students' classroom teacher may require them to share highlights of their day with other eighth graders. Finally, students will write thank you letters to their host as a follow-up. The materials attached should prove helpful in preparation for the shadowing experience. You will need the Adobe PDF reader to access forms on this site: Download Free Adobe PDF Reader • Student Suggested Interview Questions to be used by the student What really happens on this day? Your participating student will job shadow you, one of your friends, or a colleague at a local business or industries at their work site. Your student will go through a normal workday routine, observing and asking questions. Job shadowing usually lasts a half day, but may last longer depending on the host (normally from 9:00 - 1:00 or 2:00). In a few short hours, students will get to see what working at a job is really like, as well as experience how the school curriculum relates to careers. Students should be sure to clarify with the host whether lunch will be provided at the host’s place of business. (School insurance does not cover transportation in vehicles other than school-owned vehicles.) What can parents do?
You must make arrangements
for your child to shadow yourself or someone of your approval.
You must provide transportation for your child to and from the work
site that day.
Help your child to generate questions for their job host
and coach them on appropriate behavior and manners. Link

I know this will be an enjoyable and exciting learning experience. Please contact me if you have additional questions. Sincerely,
Leonard
